General Liability for Contractors
A general liability policy should be an integral component of a contractor’s insurance program, as it provides the protection needed in the event of a loss resulting from a wide range of incidents. In addition, residential and commercial contractors are typically asked to provide proof of general liability insurance in order to get the go-ahead on a project.

General Liability Includes
- Premises Liability: Covers lawsuits resulting from accidental bodily injury or property damage to a third party on your property.
- Medical Payments: Covers medical expenses for bodily injury caused by an accident.
- Products & Completed Operations: Covers potential liability for bodily injury or property damage that arises out of completed work.
- Personal and Advertising Injury: Covers damage caused by false arrest, malicious prosecution, wrongful eviction, use of another’s idea in an advertisement, copyright infringement, or publication of material that slanders, libels, or violates a person’s right to privacy.
Most small businesses choose standard general liability coverage amounts of $1 million per occurrence and a $2 million aggregate policy limit. The policy will pay up to $1 million for a single general liability insurance claim, with a total limit of $2 million for all claims made during the policy period. Typically, the policy period is one year.
